Infant and Child Death

Counseling for individuals, couples, and families who have experienced the death of a child at any stage from pregnancy through birth and infancy.

What to Expect

Counseling for pregnancy loss is not just about the loss. We work with clients along the rocky road of grief and trauma. But as healing begins, clients also find guidance when decisions are being made about future pregnancies....or when infertility challenges intervene....or when communication breaks down and relationships become strained.

Parents who have experienced a pregnancy loss will have additional stressors in a subsequent pregnancy.  Parents may simultaneously struggle with their parenting feelings for the baby who died, even while pregnant with the next baby.  There may be a fear of another loss.  This free monthly support group offers a safe place to discuss these feelings and gain support for/during this pregnancy. The support group meets the third Monday of the month from 7 - 8:30 p.m. in the Library on the 4th floor of the hospital. For more information or to RSVP, please call 412-942-5882.

National Support Organizations

M.I.S.S. Foundation: Mothers in Sympathy and Support
More than 120,000 children die every year in the United States. Of those, more than 80 percent die before their first birthday. The MISS Foundation is a 501 (c) 3, volunteer based organization committed to providing crisis and long term support to families after the death of a baby or child. The MISS Foundation also participates in legislative and advocacy issues, in particular, the Missing Angels Bill which directs states to allow the issuance of birth certificates in cases of still birth. See what M.I.S.S. says about the use of the term "pregnancy and infant loss."

Currently there are no local support groups sponsored by the M.I.S.S. Foundation.

The National Infertility Association
One in eight U.S. couples of childbearing age is diagnosed with infertility. RESOLVE addresses this public health issue by providing community to these women and men, connecting them with others who can help, empowering them to find resolution and giving voice to their demands for access to all family building options.
